Lesson from old Tanzanian man on acts of public violence

A few years ago I travelled to Tanzania, where I spent about two weeks visiting the country’s historical cities including Dar es Salam, Mazimbu and Morogoro. During these visits, we had the pleasure of interacting with locals who would give us tours of the areas, during which interesting stories and information about them would be shared with us.

In Morogoro, we visited the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College (Somafco), an educational institution established by the ANC in 1978, in response to the aftermath of the 1976 Soweto uprisings. Many students who were part of the uprisings fled SA to join Umkhonto weSizwe and other armed wings of national liberation movements...
