Residents closed off one of the main roads into Ladybrand in the Free State by burning tyres on Tuesday morning.

Danie de Vries posted photographs of the potholes in the town on March 13 and wrote:

“Congrats Mantsopa (Ladybrand) for having the best kept roads in the Free State! Under the ANC mayor, this is what we got from her and her cronies. Started long ago with the previous mayors and the rot just get worse!

"Come to Ladybrand and see for yourself, bring along your best 4×4 for all the forests growing in these potholes!”

Congrats Mantsopa (Ladybrand) for having the best kept roads in the Freestate! Under the ANC mayor, this is what we got...

Monica Safi commented on De Vries' post: “The only thing growing is this town in the size of the municipality staff.”

DA ward councillor Tania Halse claimed on Facebook on Monday that the “administrative arm of the municipality has no clue as to their roles and responsibilities”.

“The CFO is blaming the politicians for the Centlec billing mess.”

Centlec is the electricity authority in the Free State.

“Council approved that Centlec be appointed as a service provider on the grounds of facts presented to council, by administration, that Mantsopa municipality no longer has the capacity to manage the reading of meters, billing of customers and collection of debts.”

Halse said the since it was decided that Centlec will become the service provider, the municipality did not finalise the service agreement contract nor engaged the public.
