Duduzane Zuma, the son of former presidents Jacob Zuma, is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today on two counts culpable homicide.

Zuma appeared in the same court in July and the matter was postponed for disclosure of the inquest proceedings coupled with all the exhibits together with the contents of the docket.

State prosecutor Yusuf Baba said the matter was postponed to allow the defense to go through the docket.

The charges he faces are in connection with the deaths of two people when his Porsche crashed into a taxi on the M1 highway in 2014.

Phumzile Dube was killed instantly while three others were injured. Pedzisane Dube, Phumzile’s brother previously told the Sowetan that he was relieved that Zuma would finally have his day in court.

“There was a time when things were quiet and we didn’t know if he would be prosecuted. We are just happy that we will finally get to see justice,” he said.

A second woman, Jeanette Mashaba, died a couple of weeks later.

However, during the inquest, it was found that her death was not a result of the accident and that she died in hospital of natural causes.
