Nersa should be ashamed of robbing hard-pressed consumers. What it said after its decision to grant Eskom an above-inflation increase of 18.65% was a big joke – that the decision sought to balance the needs of Eskom and consumers!

Let it tell us how, because increases since 2007 have been more than 500%. And what did we get from those increases? More loadshedding. The more we pay, the more loadshedding. Maybe the only way to stop loadshedding is for us to stop paying.

This 18.65% hike is daylight robbery because there is no guarantee that we will get what we paid for. So, Nersa should be investigated and prosecuted for robbery, or for aiding a robbery. It enabled Eskom to sell and increase prices for something that does not exist in SA, electricity.

How can Eskom be allowed to collect money without providing services? This has left the door wide open for illegal connections. And can anyone blame the poor and unemployed for illegally connecting electricity? Definitely not. Because they also need electricity just like the Nersa fatcats and politicians.

Besides, constitutionally, we are all equal. Come April 1, the services of izinyoka will be in high demand throughout the country.
