Jordaan to be 4th Safa VP

DANNY Jordaan is set to be elected the fourth Safa vice-president after the amendment of the constitution was approved.

DANNY Jordaan is set to be elected the fourth Safa vice-president after the amendment of the constitution was approved.

The amendment was endorsed by Safa members at a special general meeting at a top hotel in Sandton yesterday. The country's soccer governing body currently has two elected deputy presidents, Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana and Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko.

The third vice-president is Irvin Khoza by virtue of his position as the chairperson of the Premier Soccer League. He is a special member of Safa.

Khoza is also the chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, responsible for the overall preparations for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Mazibuko is responsible for the finances of Safa, while Nonkonyana is in charge of their legal and constitutional affairs.

"Safa will now have four vice-presidents, three of whom will be directly elected by the members," Safa said after the meeting.

"There will be a vice-president who shall be the chairperson of the league.

"The chairperson of the league will not hold any other executive office within the association."

In terms of the amended Safa constitution, the executive will comprise 31 additional national executive committee members.

Ten of them will be elected from the national list, two each from the nine South African provinces and three from the PSL, namely Kaizer Motaung, Mato Madlala and Stan Matthews. The PSL did not attend the meeting.
