Bobby Motaung has last laugh

KAIZER Chiefs manager Bobby "Bobsteak" Motaung has every reason to ridicule his detractors after he was heavily criticised at the beginning of the season for his "poor" signings.

KAIZER Chiefs manager Bobby "Bobsteak" Motaung has every reason to ridicule his detractors after he was heavily criticised at the beginning of the season for his "poor" signings.

Among the many complaints that were directed at Motaung was that he bought only out-of-contract and "cheap" players.

There were also nasty jokes doing the rounds that he was buying on a "buy one, get two free" basis after his acquisition of Zimbabweans Knowledge Musona, Thomas Sweswe and Jimmy Jambo.

But Motaung is having the last laugh as the three are performing exceptionally well.

"You always get criticised but the players did very well. The season was very tough and congested and I suppose that is why people thought we would fail but they must learn to be patient," Motaung said.

He applauded coach Vladimir Vermezovic's handling of the players.

"With Musona, there was pressure from the fans and media alike for him to be given a run in the team but the coach didn't throw him in the deep end."

He also defended their decision to buy foreign players instead of local talent. "There are very few players in the country who are in the class of the ones we have," Motaung argued.
