Pay up or face suspension

Boxing SA has given beleaguered promoter Andile Sidinile an ultimatum to pay the outstanding purse monies of four boxers or his licence will be suspended.

The governing boxing body confirmed Sidinile attended the disciplinary hearing on behalf of his Sijuta Promotions, and pleaded innocence, but was found guilty on all five charges due to the overwhelming evidence placed before the disciplinary committee.

He now has three weeks to comply or his company faces suspension.

"Failure to deposit outstanding purse monies to BSA on or before February 15, failing result in Sijuta's license being suspended until March 31 of which BSA board will keep this charge in their minds when approving the 2017/18 licensees," BSA announced, adding Sijuta was also ordered to pay the costs of the disciplinary proceedings.

BSA chief executive Tsholofelo Lejaka said his organisation welcomed the verdict.

"The verdict and sanction reinforce BSA's commitment to ensuring that all licensees comply with the legislation, rules and regulations that govern the sport of boxing in SA," he said.

Sidinile refused to comment when contacted yesterday.

The East London promoter was found guilty by the independent disciplinary committee.

Sijuta is said to have failed to deposit purse monies prior to a tournament on April 22 last year as required by BSA.

The company also failed to submit a statement under oath within seven days of staging the tournament setting out the income derived from the tournament.

The summary of the judgment reads in part:

"Sijuta repeatedly made false and misleading statements or promises that it would make payment of the purse money to BSA on or before the tournament. The submission of a falsified letter to BSA by Sijuta and bringing BSA into disrepute by failing to pay the purse money resulting in boxers not being paid."
