Bacela's goal snatches a point for AmaTuks

Lennox Bacela, the former Orlando Pirates striker, finally broke his duck at the University of Pretoria, scoring a second-half goal to secure a valuable point away from home against Free State Stars yesterday.

Bacela rose high to head home from a Getaneh Gebede cross before the hour mark, cancelling out Danny Venter's first-half strike as the match finally ended 1-1 at Goble Park.

It was Bacela's first goal since February and he will be hoping that it is the first of many to come as AmaTuks need a reliable scorer to get them out of the trouble they currently find themselves in.

AmaTuks are second from bottom of the table with just one victory this season, having collected only six points in their 10 matches.

While management would not be too disappointed about a point on the road, under-fire coach Sammy Troughton knows that they need to start winning matches.

The university side were poor for the better part of yesterday and it was no surprise that they went into the break trailing.

Their defenders gave Ea Lla Koto winger Venter too much time to calmly slot the ball home eight minutes before the break.

Eager to get something out of the game, AmaTuks introduced Gebede and Thabo Mosadi at the start of the second half to put some pressure on the hosts' defence.

It worked as Gebede set up the equaliser for Bacela, 10 minutes into the second period.

In the 65 minutes Gebede's shot looked to have gone over the line, but was not given, sparking some protest from the visitors.
