THE last thing Mongezi Bobe expected when he returned to Black Leopards this season was to become a coach.

He was eager to play regularly again after an unsuccessful spell with Free State Stars last season. But just three months after his return to Lidoda Duvha in the National First Division, the right winger has been asked to focus less on playing and more on coaching, for now.

Bobe was appointed assistant to caretaker coach Joel Masutha after Ashwin Sutton and his assistant Solly Luvhengo were suspended and later sacked.

"I am a player-coach and I am enjoying it. We won our first game as coaches against Baroka and then we beat Vasco da Gama. I am young and I am prepared to get more knowledge as a coach," said Bobe, who revealed that Leopards players were not happy with Sutton's style of play.

"The previous coaches were suspended and we took over. We were not doing well, so I asked the players what is wrong and they said they do not like the style of play and they are not comfortable with the system. We have a players' committee.

"So Ashwin and his technical team were asked to relax and give us space to work. What happened with management after their suspension is another story."

Leopards, who are in seventh place on eight points, face bottom side Maluti FET College at Thohoyandou Stadium tomorrow. Kickoff is at 3.30pm.

"It's always difficult to play a bottom-placed teams because they are desperate for three points. Our players have to be focused because we want to get back to the PSL," he added.
