HIGHLY rated North American Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion Thabiso "The Rock" Mchunu swears by his late grandfather that he will not lose to Brazilian Julio Cesar dos Santos on June 6.

They will be fighting for the vacant IBF Intercontinental belt in a tournament presented by Real Steel Promotions at the Rembrandt Hall at the University of Pretoria.

"How can I lose against a boxer from Brazil, when that country is known for football?" Mchunu quipped.

The boxer from Cato Ridge, near Pietermaritzburg, is rated No 2 by the WBC and 13th by the WBO.

"My grandfather, Mpiyakhe, would turn in his grave should I lose to Dos Santos. But he [my grandfather] will stand by me if I am to play football against Dos Santos because then he would take me to the cleaners."

The diminutive left-hander, who is built like Mr Universe, fights out of Gauteng under trainers Shawn, George and Peter Smith. The trio are the sons of Kosie Smith, the legendary former South African light heavyweight champion.

Mchunu, the former SA, WBA Pan Africa and ABU undefeated champ, predicted a knockout win, which would be his 12th in 17 fights.

"Bet on me and you will smile all the way to the bank," said the boxer.

But Dos Santos will be a formidable opponent, with an impressive knockout ratio of 23 from 26 wins, against two defeats.

Top billing in the tournament hosted by Pieter de Wet and Andre Thysse goes to WBF cruiserweight champion Danie Venter, who will bid for the first defence of his title against dangerous Colombian Santander Silgado.
