Proteas wilt against the Aussies

THE Proteas will go to Bangladesh for the T20 World Cup with questions still lingering about their death bowling after they lost by five wickets to Australia in the second T20 here last night.

The rain-affected game was trimmed to a seven-over-a-side match but managed to give the 17 000-strong crowd some thrills. SA's batting was lightning, especially when Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis were in the middle and made a competitive 80/1 from their lot of overs.

They put on 74 runs from 32 balls for the second wicket with De Kock finishing on 41 from 20 balls.

But the cocky, arrogant, yet fantastically in-form Australian opener David Warmer matched those efforts by smashing 40 from 16 balls to set up the Australian victory.

JP Duminy looked to have rescued the Proteas when he trapped Warner lbw with his first ball and then had Glenn Maxwell caught by Faf du Plessis for cheap.

But Hendricks unravelled in the end, getting sprayed all over Kingsmead before Wayne Parnell made a mess of the final over. Parnell gifted Brad Hodge two meaty full tosses and they were duly sent for six.
