Rantie cut above rest

BAFANA Bafana striker Tokelo Rantie broke his duck at Championship Bournemouth with a stunning strike that had his manager Eddie Howe suggesting he was above the level of the English second tier.

It has been a frustrating time on the English south coach for Rantie so far having found goals hard to come by, but he has at least been contributing by creating opportunities for teammates.

However, having become his club's record signing in early September, he knows his stay with The Cherries will be judged on goals scored and it will be a relief to have finally gotten off the mark.

He collected a flick-on and crashed the ball home off the crossbar from 20-yards to give his side the lead in their 1-1 draw at Burnley.

"It has been coming from Rantie. He has shown flashes of being a very good player," Howe said. "There are four or five moments in a match when you think he is above this level. We are trying to get him into the game more and I'm really pleased he has scored that goal. It will help him believe he can adapt to the English game."

Dean Furman and Bongani Khumalo both started for Doncaster Rovers and they played to a 0-0 draw at Barnsley. Kagisho Dikgacoi and Steven Pienaar came face-to-face as Everton were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace in the Premiership.

Dikgacoi had a great chance of putting Palace in front but inexplicably headed away.

Kgosi Ntlhe, dropped from the Bafana squad to face Spain next week, started for Peterborough United in their 2-0 FA Cup first round victory over Exeter City.

Daylon Claasen was a halftime substitute for Polish side Lech Poznan as he works his way back from injury and scored the final goal for his side in the 4-2 win over Ruch Chorzow.

Ayanda Patosi created the first goal for Lokeren in their 4-0 victory over Mechelen in Belgium on Friday. It was not such a good weekend for Bafana goalkeeper Darren Keet as he was on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat at Cercle Brugge.
