FINALLY, Moruti Mthalane has signed a contract for the defence of his IBF flyweight title against Silvio Olteanu, his trainer-manager Nick Durandt confirmed yesterday.

Durandt said SES, the German boxing outfit which won the purse bid for Mthalane's fifth defence, sent through the fight contract on Thursday. Durandt sounded relieved when he told Sowetan that his charge had already signed the contract. "We have already sent it back to the Germans," said Durandt, who was a worried man the whole of last week because he was not certain if the Germans would send the contract in time or delay until the last minute."

The fight will take place in Frankfurt, Germany, on September 13. That will be the eve of the fight of the decade between Ring Magazine's pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and Saul Alvarez, which will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, US. They will fight for both the WBC and WBA Super World Junior Middleweight titles.

Mthalane will earn R110 000 for his defence, which has not pleased Durandt. "This is the lowest purse money that Mthalane has earned since he challenged for the then vacant title in 2009 ..." said Durandt.
