We can beat Chiefs and stay up - Ertugral

AJAX Cape Town "can" beat leaders Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow and survive in the top flight, despite winning only one game this year, coach Muhsin Ertugral insisted yesterday.

Ertugral, who is still waiting to hear if his paperwork will be completed in time to sit on the bench against his former club, says Ajax need just four points from their last three games to stay up and again play in the premier league next season.

"Four points is very possible for this team," insisted Ertugral, whose side has to meet Maritzburg United and Lamontville Golden Arrows in its last two fixtures following the May Day clash with Amakhosi.

The match against Chiefs takes place at the Cape Town Stadium, with kickoff at 5pm.

"We can beat Chiefs for sure and if we do so, I think we'll be out of danger," warned the former Amakhosi coach as he sought to play on the psyche of the opponents.

"Chiefs have established themselves this season and are organised in possession and particularly dangerous on the transition. They don't lose the ball that easily in midfield, which allows their wingbacks to push up.

"You could see from the middle of the season they were going to be the team to beat but I've felt in the last weeks they have begun to feel the pressure.

"Chiefs have been playing with a good formula but not much emotion.

"If they are relaxed they can dominate but if they feel the pressure they could falter. Ajax has always been a hoodoo team for Chiefs," Ertugral added ominously.

Stuart Baxter will continue to gamble with team selection for Chiefs' remaining Absa Premiership matches as Amakhosi prepare to face a backlash from their Cape rivals.

"I am looking at making some changes against Ajax because they are playing for something and we need to choose players based on how we see the game. We said about five games ago that we will now look at each game as a cup final."
