Proteas are 3rd on cricket Test rankings

The Proteas slipped one place to third in the ICC Test rankings after drawing 1-1 in their two-match series against Australia.

The tourists fought back to level the series with a two-wicket victory at the Wanderers on Monday after the South Africans had snatched an eight-wicket win in a bizarre Test at Newlands.

England remained in top spot in the rankings, while India climbed to second and Australia narrowed the gap in fourth place.

Proteas captain Graeme Smith, despite making an unbeaten century  in the first match, and averaging 61.66 in the series, dropped five  positions to 11th in the Test rankings for batsmen.

Hashim Amla, the top run-scorer from either side, contributing 239 runs at 59.75, climbed one place to sixth, and AB de Villiers, who made 145 runs at 48.33, rose two positions to 12th.
