Bonus for softball champs

THE winners of the inaugural Limpopo Softball Association Zororo Super League will play the national teams of Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Botswana, the sponsor's managing director Ronald Shingange, said at the weekend.

Shingange, who has injected R220,000 into the league, said that an additional R80,000 will be used for a knockout tournament, a top-four tournament and the league winners' matches against the three neighbouring countries.

Shingange was speaking during the sponsorship launch at the Zororo Lodge in Dalmada near Polokwane.

"We believe that through the sponsorship the standard of the ball game in the province will return to its well-known place, the top. We are confident that softball fanatics will flock down to Limpopo during the league matches and the tournaments. We want to produce more national players, coaches and leaders in softball as happened in the past," said Shingange.

Softball South Africa president Guillo "Sdumo" Marapyane commended Shingange for investing in softball and made an undertaking that the money will be used fruitfully.

"We appreciate the fact that business-people like Shingange invest such a lot of money in softball.

"Although Shingange's benefits will not be immediate, we can promise that he will not regret having sponsored softball," Marapyane said.

The event was also attended by the chairperson of the Confederation of Zone Six Games, Junior Ramovha.

The league's opening rally will be held at the Seshego diamonds on August 6.
