Golfers go for glory

AMATEUR golfers from Limpopo and Mpumalanga are expected to compete for places in a South African team for the 17th Amateur World Golfers Championship on September 3.

The regional event will be hosted by Limpopo Tourism and Parks (LTP) at the Zebula Golf Estate in Bela Bela, Limpopo. Golfers from around Pretoria will also take part in the event.

LTP chief executive Rob Tooley said: "Our pristine, world-class golf courses won the hearts of inspection team members who visited various golf courses around the country. Zebula Golf Estate was selected to host the regional elimination event on September 3 to cover the entire region, including Mpumalanga and Pretoria."

He said the competition will be open to any amateur golfer over the age of 16 with an official handicap of 0 to 25. The 10 best amateur golfers of the national competition will play against teams from 50 other countries at the Championship in KwaZulu-Natal from October 29 until November 5.
