Mathoho a towering prospect

IT'S only a matter of time before gangling Bloemfontein Celtic defender Mulomowandau "Tower" Mathoho catches the attention of Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane

The 20-year-old has been impressive since he joined Celtic last season and his mentor Clinton Larsen believes he is national team material.

Actually, Mathoho is one of the reasons why Celtic boast the fourth best defensive record in the SA Premiership this season, having conceded only 16 goals in 20 matches.

The tall player uses his height so well that it seems only natural for him to be at the heart of the defence. He makes crucial interceptions and reads the game well.

He stood head and shoulders above the rest in Saturday' s 1-0 win over Lamontville Golden Arrows.

"He is growing in leaps and bounds and is really impressive, so much that soon he will get a national team call-up," Larsen said. "It shouldn't be long before he gets noticed by national team selectors. It's not every day that you have a player of his calibre who's got it all - the height, strength and, most importantly, age on his side."

Meanwhile, Larsen confirmed that they will not be signing Masilo Modubi.
