Blackburn make R2billion bid for Ronaldinho

BLACKBURN - English Premier side Blackburn have made a Euros24,6million (R2,17billion) move for AC Milan midfielder Ronaldinho, BBC Radio Lancashire reported yesterday.

The club's new Indian owners Venky's say their local office in Brazil is negotiating a three-year deal with Ronaldinho's manager and they were prepared to do whatever it took to land the former world player of the year.

Venky's chairperson Anuradha Desai told BBC Radio Lancashire: "He is keen to play in the (English Premier League) and I think that goes in our favour.

"To be precise (it is) Euros7,6million for the first year and about Euros8,5million for the second and third years." Desai also revealed that Rovers had made attempts to sign former England captain David Beckham on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy.

Ronaldinho is set to close the door on his AC Milan career after leaving their winter training camp in Dubai, coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed on Saturday. The 30-year-old Brazil international has reportedly been poised to return to his homeland to rejoin either formative club Gremio or Flamengo, having fallen out of favour at Milan.

Ronaldinho joined Milan from Barcelona in 2008 but despite occasional flurries of his best form he lost his place in the starting XI after Milan signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho.
