Emfuleni business group threatens not to pay rates

Group says it's been forced to fix municipal infrastructure

A group of businesses in Emfuleni have threatened to boycott paying municipal rates and taxes after enduring years of deteriorating service delivery and collapse of infrastructure.

The Vereeniging Business Corporation (VBC), which is made up of 900 members, said it took a decision this month that none of its members will pay for services come the end of November. Group members range from cellphones shops who pay up to R5,000 in rates and taxes a month to big manufacturing firms that employ over 200 people and pay bills of up to R1.8m...
