The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) on Wednesday said it had suspended the manager of its Matlosana SPCA branch over an expletive-ridden social media rant that included the k-word.

The national body also denied reports of a “mass slaughter” and attributed the claims to aggrieved staffers after it “took over the Matlosana SPCA” on Tuesday.

 The NSPCA said in a statement that Matlosana manager Suzette Kotze had posted on social media: “May the lord forgive me but I wish all whore motherf***er k*****s die a horrible suffering suffocating (sic) death!!!!”

 It said that “racism will not be tolerated” and the matter had been reported to the SA Human Rights Commission.

Kotze also allegedly forced a “kennel assistant…to enter a kennel where there was a vicious dog which attacked him‚ leaving him incapacitated”.

 Her suspension‚ the NSPCA said‚ did not go down well with management and staff “and we believe that various tactics are being deployed to elicit public or media sympathy and discredit” the national body.

“There has been no mass euthanasia or ‘murder’ by NSPCA personnel at the Matloslana SPCA. Visuals circulating on Facebook and other media claiming to be proof of this were NOT taken at the Matloslana SPCA.

 “Six dogs and a cat were euthanased by NSPCA personnel‚ at the request of the owner/s of the animals‚ due to various health reasons and old age‚ with the exception of one animal.”

The NSPCA provided a link to a video  which it said shows Kotze stating: “I have euthanased this morning. Go check my freezer‚ they are not even frozen yet.”

The clip‚ filmed on Tuesday‚ “clearly indicates that animals were euthanased by Mrs Kotze prior to the NSPCA’s arrival”.

 “In the interest of complete transparency‚ the National Council of SPCAs issues an invitation to the media and to members of the public to visit the Matlosana SPCA and to see for themselves.”
