HER television and radio slots aside, Bonang Matheba has been keeping a very low profile of late. Often seen at parties, Matheba has been rather quiet for someone known for her social lifestyle.

That was more evident when, for the second time since laying assault charges against her former boyfriend, she did not pitch for her appearance in the Randburg Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Matheba's former boyfriend, DJ Euphonik, made a brief appearance before magistrate Vincent Pienaar yesterday. His case was postponed to August 26. The two have been embroiled in a bitter break-up, making accusations against each other in the process.

DJ Euphonik, real name Themba Nkosi, has accused Matheba of going to great lengths to get his attention. Nkosi said Matheba once slit her wrists.

Matheba disputed Nkosi's claim, accusing him of mental and physical abuse. In her affidavit, she said Nkosi brutally assaulted her throughout their relationship.

"On that day (of the incident now before the court), he hit me on the body and slapped me in the face. On another occasion he slapped me across the face following an argument.

"He later apologised and we put the incident behind us. He assaulted me again in the same year. This time he punched me in the face while we were driving from his place to mine," the affidavit read in part. She also says Nkosi has anger management problems.

Their public spat took a nasty turn recently when an unnamed source leaked hospital documents to Drum magazine of a patient whose name is similar to that of Matheba, alleging that she had an abortion after she had cheated on Euphonik.

Matheba, however, vehemently denies the allegation, saying Euphonik is trying to ruin her brand image.
