Swallows poised to peck Urban Warriors

A TRIP back to their former home ground could be just what Moroka Swallows need to turn their fortunes around when they host Ajax Cape Town tomorrow night.

A TRIP back to their former home ground could be just what Moroka Swallows need to turn their fortunes around when they host Ajax Cape Town tomorrow night.

The Dube Birds had to play their last home match against Kaizer Chiefs at Ellis Park Stadium because of the poor state of the pitch at Dobsonville Stadium.

Tomorrow, the Dube Birds welcome the Urban Warriors to Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg.

Swallows are yet to register their first win this year, and they will want to capitalise on their opponents' vulnerability after Ajax were pipped 1-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday. The clash also affords Swallows the chance to avenge the 2-0 first-round defeat at the hands of Ajax.

Although the Urban Warriors are a very good team - they are sixth on the log - they have been inconsistent this season, especially after the departure of Muhsin Ertugral. Captain Brett Evans has described this season as "the most up-and-down season ever" for them.

And that is understandable considering the change in the coaching personnel.

Although they might not want to hear the words "MTN 8" following their humiliation by Lamontville Golden Arrows in the final last year, Ajax will do well to win most of their remaining matches to finish in the top-eight bracket to have another crack at the trophy.

Coach Foppe de Haan can be forgiven for the club's inconsistent run as players are taking too long to understand his system.
