Lira's own show at last

SHE might have wowed and dazzled music lovers for the two years since she plunged into the limelight, but soul singer Lira is adamant she is a closed book to many of her fans.

Lira says though she has performed at many jazz festivals across the country, her performances have largely been limited because she shared the stage with other artists.

And for three years she has been itching to have her own show in which she could call the shots.

Now her wish has been granted in the form of a live DVD recording scheduled for August 21 at Carnival City's Big Top Arena.

And the songstress relishes every moment. She has guaranteed her fans their money's worth of a two-hour musical journey.

"This is my first personal show," said the 29-year-old. "A Lira performance like you have never seen it before. People will get to hear all their favourite songs.

"It's really designed to be an experience . the celebration of a journey I undertook over the last two years in this industry.

"I have had a lot of support from South Africans and this is my way of saying thank you."

Lira is more than happy with her success so far. She acknowledges that she is not much of a dancer but rather a vocalist.

"I am not Lebo Mathosa or Beyonce," Lira says. "But it is a great experience nonetheless."

She believes the live recording she is about to make will afford her an opportunity to interact and engage with her fans.

She brags that the recording will be the first of its kind, with special high-tech cameras for special effects.

The DVD is to be used to further launch her international career.

"We are going to send the DVD to the international community and see what happens," she explains." "We have made a dent internationally but more needs to be done.

"There's an awareness of Lira globally and this DVD will further emphasise it." s.

Joining her on stage will be a 10-piece band. Usually, she performs with a seven-piece but a further three were added for this show.

The award-winning singer says that her fans can expect an intense two yours of music because she will be dishing out soulful sounds.

"I intend to give them my utmost best," she promises. "I have been waiting for this kind of an opportunity for years now.

"Also, I want to compete internationally and this DVD will give me a chance to sell myself."

Earlier this year Lira won four South African Music Awards in the 15th edition. She says that she is riding the crest of the wave with planned tours locally and internationally .

"It's a blessed time for me. That's why the recording of this DVD is very special to me. It reflects my journey so far.

"I don't know what to attribute my success to. I think everybody has their season - and I am having mine now."
