Despite the grim statistics about the cholera epidemic in some areas of Limpopo and Mpumalanga, doctors have assured South Africans that the disease is under control.

This should come as a relief to people living in provinces that have not yet been affected.

Doctors have, however, warned that although they are doing their utmost to control the killer disease, the public must also heed advice in helping to fight it by, among other things, boiling water before use, especially in rural areas.

To help in controlling the spread of the disease, the government should also step up improving living conditions in rural areas, where health facilities are still basic, and there are few areas with running water and electricity.
