jabu in club hunt
Exciting midfield ace Jabu Mahlangu is likely to join Kaizer Chiefs or Moroka Swallows when he lands in South Africa today after a successful stint with Swedish Third Division side Osters IF.
Mahlangu, who joined the side early this year after his music career crumbled - and after being sidelined for a season - is said to be eager to play for any team in the Absa Premiership.
Chiefs' manager Bobby "Bobsteak" Motaung said Mahlangu phoned them and asked to train with Amakhosi for five months.
Asked if Mahlangu was keen to play for them, Motaung said: "There are a lot of issues to look at before we decide. We're not desperate because we have a good squad. But the matter is still under discussion."
Moroka Swallows' manager, Sipho Xulu said they were keen on the player who trained with them before he left. "We have not discussed anything with the player and his manager, but it will be nice to have a player of that calibre," he said.
Mahlangu's manager Mabalane Mfundisi confirmed that the player will be in the country today and said he was oozing confidence.
"In fact, he was supposed to play for [Swedish] Premiership side Helsingborg, but because of the number of foreign players he featured for Osters IF where they assessed him.
"They were happy with his performance and he will be going back to join Helsingborg next April," Mfundisi said.
"Now that the Swedish league is in recess, we will be happy if Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows or any other team in the league could approach us for his services until next year when the Swedish League kicks off."
He said Mahlangu has realised he wasted valuable time and that there is little time to make up for lost years.
He played 14 games for Osters IF, scoring eight goals and was voted man of the match five times. His side finished second but lost in the promotion playoffs.
