Jos brings class, flair to new radio station
If the recent acquisition of popular radio presenter Josias Ncube is anything to go by, then the soon-to-be established Capricorn FM in Limpopo is surely going places.
The commercial radio station is expected to go on air later this year. A project headed by radio moguls Given Mkhari and Shabba Muleya, its offices are based at the plush suburb of Bendor in Polokwane.
Ncube, 41, joined the station from PhalaPhala FM, an SABC radio station in Polokwane, where he worked for nine years. Until recently, he was the station's executive producer.
The slightly-built presenter told Sowetan during an exclusive interview yesterday that he was excited about his new job and was ready for the challenges.
"I really can't wait to start working for Capricorn FM. It's a new station with new challenges and one is ready to tackle them head-on," said Ncube confidently.
He had been offered a position as an assistant programmes manager at the new station. "I'm not starting as a novice in the broadcasting field. Believe me, the environment at this new station will be completely different from that of my former employers," he said.
Popularly known as Jos while entertaining listeners on air, Ncube gained popularity while working for Radio Thohoyandou, which was popularly known as The Big T.
The station broadcasts in English. "I joined The Big T at the tender age of 23. Back then, it was tough but I had to quickly adjust because I really loved the job."
In 1998, when The Big T was integrated into the SABC, Ncube also joined the public broadcaster and began broadcasting in TshiVenda, his mother tongue.
"I stayed with The Big T for nine years, and with PhalaPhala FM for another nine years. Now it's time for me to move on," he said.
He further thanked his former colleagues for supporting him through his illustrious career.
Ncube became the second radio presenter to join the station from the SABC in Limpopo.
Last month, DJ Skhumbuzo Mbatha of Thobela FM left the station after he was offered a position at Capricorn FM.
