The year 2015 has been one interesting year in South Africa, especially in the entertainment industry.

If it wasn't AKA giving Cassper Nyovest a hot slap, it was Bonang Matheba being accused of wrecking DJ Zinhle's family.

We take you through a list of who we believe were top newsmakers in 2015, are they still going to be talk of the town in 2016? We can only wait and see.

DJ Sbu

Sbusiso 'DJ Sbu' Leope has undoubtedly been one of the newsmakers in 2015. From getting into trouble for endorsing an unlicensed Forbes Africa magazine cover of himself holding his energy drink MoFaya and 'misleading' the public.

DJ Sbu also got into hot water for 'lying' about owning an R8million golf estate house that he 'flaunted' on Top Billing. Sunday World revealed that the popular DJ and businessman was actually renting the house from an estate agent and paid a monthly rent of R45000.

Other things that made DJ Sbu a contender for newsmaker of the year includes: Busted for drunk driving, winning a South African of the Year award, being fired from SABC's Metro FM, scoring a CNBC TV deal, SABS calling him to order for using their logo without permission; and his fiancee calling off their planned wedding.

Flabba

Hip Hop legend Nkululeko 'Flabba' Habedi died earlier this year after his long term girlfriend Sindisiwe Manqele stabbed him at his home in Alexandra.

Manqele claimed she stabbed the rapper in self defense as she believed her life was in danger but was found guilty of murder.

Flabba was making his much anticipated comeback after signing with JR's label Feel Good Music. He had featured on the popular Do Like I Do by DJ Sliqe.

Bonang Matheba

Mzansi's 'it' girl has been in the news for 'not so good' reasons.

Bonang was accused of being a homewrecker by DJ Zinhle for causing her break up with her baby daddy AKA.

Zinhle Jiyane took to her blog to express her anger towards Bonang who has since been rumoured to be dating the rapper.

Bonang also lost a TV deal to her rival Pearl Thusi and Lerato Kganyago, she was also linked with Nigerian musician D'Banj, the two were also spotted kissing at the MTV Awards.

Penuel Mnguni

Known for making his congregants eat snakes and hair, Pastor Penuel Mnguni has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

A journalism student at TUT also had to run for her life earlier this year when she visited End of Times Ministries and was chased down by congregants determined to ear her hair extensions.

Mnguni also became centre of attention when he went awol ahead of the Commission for the Promotion of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistics Communities (CRL) hearing into abuse of religion and beliefs.

Oscar Pistorius

Oscar Pistorius arrives court sentencing

For the past two years straight Oscar Pistorius has been making headlines - from shooting and killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp to having his culpable conviction changed to a murder charge - the former paralympian champ has been having a rough.

Pistorius's court case has been one to watch this year after State Prosecutor Gerrie Nel appealed to the Supreme Court of Appeal to overturn judge Thokozile Masipa's earlier ruling of culpable homicide to that of murder.

This came as Pistorius was out on parole after serving at least 10 months of his five years sentence.

AKA

This has been AKA's year, the All Eyes On Me hitmaker has been surrounded by a lot of controversy which has worked out positively for his rap career.

AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, broke up with his baby mama DJ Zinhle in one of the controversial break-ups of the year which circled around Bonang Matheba.

He was also said to have 'slapped' his rival Cassper Nyovest at a restaurant for 'no reason' if the Doc Shebeleza hitmaker's word is anything to go by.

This gave rise to a Drake and Meek Mill kind of a beef which gladly resulted in a couple of 'diss' tracks that were highly appreciated. AKA released Composure that went on to become one of the most purchased local songs on iTunes and Cassper Nyovest released Ashes2Ashes and Dust2Dust in which he claims AKA is a druggie.

The rapper also pushed a fan off the stage at the Durban July.

He was also announced the most played local artist on radio for 2015.

Jacob Zuma

Although the Nkandla debacle has died down and we see less disruptions by opposition parties, President Jacob Zuma has made headlines.

Addressing the Nkandla question earlier this year, Zuma mocked members of the opposition in Parliament for always bringing up the issue in the National Assembly. This angered a lot of people who said that Zuma clearly did not take the issue serious.

Zuma also kicked his wife Nompulelelo Ntuli-Zuma out of his Nkandla home for allegedly trying to poison him.

Recently the president fired Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene and replaced him with David Van Rooyen for exactly four days before asking former Minister Pravin Gordhan to take the Finance department reigns again.

This gave rise to the now popular #ZumaMustFall campaign.

Trevor Noah

The pride of South African comedy Trevor Noah's life took a huge turn this year when he took over The Daily Show in the United State from John Stewart.

Noah became the first local comedian to host a show of such magnitude outside of South Africa.

Noah also trended following an article by the Sunday Times which claimed that his 24 year-old cousin was been brutally murdered. He tweeted that him and his family had spent the whole trying to figure out 'which one of us died'.

Cassper Nyovest

Fresh Prince of Maftown made headlines for both the good and bad this year.

From claiming to be to make a million a day to #FillUpTheDome successful concert, Cassper Nyovest has been a definite hit in 2015.

He became the first South African black artist to assemble 20 000 people to the popular TicketPro Dome, formerly known as Coca-Cola Dome.

Cassper Nyovest also became one of the few local artists to reach gold on their studio albums this year. Him, Zahara and iFani sold 20 000 copies in a day.

His campaign with Major League DJz and Riky Rick for their hit song Slyza Tsotsi became one of the biggest campaigns for the year. Up there with #FeesMustFall, #ZumaMustFall and #WeDanceAgainChallenge.

He also claimed to have been slapped by AKA, attacked journalists for not covering his event, attacked SA Hip Hop Awards for not recognising his hard work,
