5FM's Rider gives prize money to charity

SURESHNIE Rider - a mother, 5FM Top40 presenter and production manager of SABC3's 3Talk with Noeleen, is giving the R100,000 prize money she won as one of the MTN Y'ello Rose Top Ten SA women in radio to Agang Sechaba.

Her passion to "impart knowledge and see children from impoverished communities get a fair shot at education" is one of the reasons why she chose to work with Agang Sechaba, a charity organisation.

Agang Sechaba has also been embraced by other local celebrities such as Vanessa Carreira-Coutroulis and Kagiso Modupe.

The three will support Agang Sechaba and its initiatives in developing communities, especially through educational advancement of needy but academically excellent students.

They join other celebrities that have been part of these noble efforts, such as Basetsana Kumalo and Motshabi Tyelele, who have worked tirelessly with the organisation for years.

Carreira-Coutroulis is a mother, businesswoman and former Miss SA, whom many people will always remember for her highly publicised and controversial stance during the Miss World 2002 pageant, when she refused to take part in the competition in Nigeria in protest against the judgment of Amina Lawal, a young woman sentenced to death by stoning for having a baby out of wedlock.

Her passion, she says, will go a long way to mentoring the girls that Agang Sechaba works with.

Modupe, who plays Mangi on e.tv'sScandal, joins Agang Sechaba since he believes: "providing an opportunity to kids to get out of poverty through education is the only way we can build South Africa and make it a great place to be.

The Agang Sechaba Educate A Child charity polo event will take place this Saturday at the Inanda Polo Grounds and will feature a fashion garden where up-and-coming young designers, such as Niche Wear, Dear Everyone and Avela, will showcase some of their designs.

There will be an auctioning of a hat collection from Till Thembi and Kumalo will auction one of her dresses, with proceeds going to the educational programme.

A wine garden will be hosted by Cape Legends and there will be live music by GB Collective, Genevieve and the Soweto Opera-Quadro.
