I won't resign - Motaung

KAIZER Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung has no intention of quitting his post, and those calling for his head had better get used to it.

In a curt response to renewed calls from supporters to resign following the team's inconsistent run, Motaung stressed that he was going nowhere and that he will be there for as long as he lives. "I was born here at Chiefs, it is my home. I'm going nowhere," Motaung said yesterday.

"When I signed Knowledge Musona, people were saying all sorts of things. They even laughed at us saying we get additional players for free when we bring players from Zimbabwe. Look what Knowledge did for us. Where is he now?

"There is no way I will destroy this club. This is a family business and I did not apply for the job. My father (Kaizer) has invested his life in this club. We are all working hard to ensure Chiefs continue to dominate."

Concerns about the team's inconsistent run lately, which has resulted in them being knocked out of the Telkom Knockout in the first round, have escalated.

And Motaung has acknowledged it's unacceptable for a team of Chiefs' calibre to lose out on two cup competitions in a row, after their elimination from MTN8.

"We have lost two cups already and we are worried about that, and now we have to fight for the league and the remaining cup," he said.

Chiefs were hoping to win their third successive Knockout tournament but Platinum Stars ended their dream with a 2-1 defeat on Sunday.

But Chiefs will have a chance at redemption when they host the very same Stars side in a PSL match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

"Our message to our supporters is that let us give the coach (Vladimir Vermezovic) a chance."

Midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala promised Amakhosi fans that they will beat Stars on Saturday.

"Stars are a difficult side, but we will not allow them to beat us twice in a row," Tshabalala said.
