Wits ponder out-of-favour Ngcobo's future

S'thembiso Ngcobo is no longer in Bidvest Wits' plans, with the club hedging their options at the moment on what to do with the striker.

Wits chief executive Jose Ferreira could not specify whether the Clever Boys would release Ngcobo, who has stopped training with the club.

"He's not in the coach's plans for this season, so we'll see what's going to happen over the next few days. There are a few things pending," Ferreira said.

Ngcobo has done fairly well for Wits. He scored six goals in 15 league games after arriving from AmaZulu halfway through the 2013/2014 season.

Last season was less successful for the 31-year-old striker, with four goals in 22 PSL appearances, as coach Hunt struggled to find a consistent strike partnership and the Students' lack of goals saw them fall off the championship pace to finish third.

"It's a technical decision that was taken," was all Ferreira would say on Wits' choice to let Ngcobo go.

Wits are finalising plans to loan slippery Ethiopian forward Getaneh Kebede to Mpumalanga Black Aces, and with Ngcobo on the way out it leaves the club with just Calvin Kadi and Henrico Botes from their front-line strikers used last season.

Wits' headline signings have been the two hugely experienced wingers - Daine Klate and Elias Pelembe - who were part of Hunt's three consecutive Premier League titles at SuperSport United between 2008 and 2010.

Ferreira confirmed Wits have received enquiries from Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns for star playmaker Sibusiso Vilakazi, though the club is yet to receive any concrete offer.

"At this stage there's nothing happening and we're interested in keeping Sibusiso Vilakazi," Ferreira said.
