Azinga "Golden Boy" Fuzile retained his SA featherweight title via a unanimous points decision against Rofhiwa "War Child" Maemu at Orient Theatre at the weekend.

But the eight-fight novice from Duncan Village had to dig deeper in his reserve to emerge victorious on Sunday, said the champion's trainer Mzamo "Chief" Njekanye.

He actually gave credit to Maemu, the Soweto-based challenger from Venda, who is trained by Alan Toweel Jr.

"Rofhiwa came fully prepared to die inside the ring," said Njekanye yesterday.

"He never stopped coming at Azinga, but his style worked in our favour because Azinga picked him as he came in.

"Azinga ended up injuring his left hand in round seven and fought the last five rounds with one hand.

"I liked the pressure that Maemu applied because it made Azinga to think deeper."

With his victory on Sunday, Fuzile, 20, recorded the third defence of the belt he won in his fifth fight from ring veteran Mabhuti "Macman" Sinyabi in September.

Fuzile registered the second defence in May after befuddling veteran Sydney "The Skeleton" Maluleka.

The win also earned him the IBF Continental belt.

It was after that victory that Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman toyed with the idea of staging a Featherweight Super Four in October.

He mentioned Fuzile, Simpiwe Vetyeka, Tshifhiwa Munyai and Lerato Dlamini.

Njekanye said they would gladly love to be part of the series.
