Percy Mkhize's consistency in producing desired results in the ring since his professional debut in 2014 has earned him the opportunity to headline a boxing tournament.

It's all thanks to promoter Sandile Xaka whose Supreme Boxing Promotions has shown its vote of confidence on the 22-year-old twinkling star from Orlando in Soweto.

Mkhize will face Mpho Seforo over eight rounds for the junior flyweight belt at Blairgowrie Recreation Centre in Randburg on Sunday.

Mkhize - whose skills are polished by veteran trainer Alan Toweel Junior - remains undefeated after seven bouts. He will face Seforo, from the West Rand, who is also yet to taste defeat after two victories.

Pocket-sized Mkhize is a former top amateur who lost only 10 of his 100 fights.

He told Sowetan that he looked up to the late Jacob "Baby Jake" Matlala, who ruled the junior flyweight weight class back in the day.

Xaka explained that there was no better way of encouraging a youngster who is doing well than giving him the opportunity to head a boxing tournament.

"This will motivate other young fighters to do well so that they can be given a similar chance. Imagine what this will do to seasoned boxers. They would not want to be outdone by their juniors, and in the process every boxing tournament will be a classic ," said Xaka .

Said Toweel Junior: "I am looking at getting Percy the provincial title before the end of the year. That will be a proper process of building him up before we can worry about the SA title. The beauty is that Seforo is also undefeated so there is a lot at stake. I believe fans will enjoy a good fight between two unbeaten youngsters."

The main supporting bout pits another prospect Jeffrey Magagane against tough-as nails Git Bholo in the lightweight class over six rounds, while Chris "Tyson" Monyai will face Dennis Mbat in the junior middleweight over six rounds. There will be five more bouts, and action will begin at 2pm.

lMeanwhile Ludonga Boxing Promotion will stage its development tournament, an eight-bout card in KwaGqikazi Hall in Nongoma, KZN.

Action will begin at 1pm.
