Baxter keen to extend team's unbeaten run

SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter believes his team can prolong their unbeaten run when they clash with Bidvest Wits in a league match tonight at Lucas Moripe Stadium (7.30pm).

Matsatsantsa have won four of their last six games in all competitions and drew the other two. Baxter is confident they can upset title chasers Wits.

"We go into the Wits game buoyed by good results, the lads are working so hard," said Baxter, whose side beat Black Aces 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal last Friday.

The 62-year-old feels his charges have improved a great deal since he took over from Gordon Igesund in late January.

"If we compare what I saw in front of me in the first week when I came and what we showed in the second half against Aces [on Friday], there is a massive difference. I think they have worked very, very hard to get there and now we need to keep on working," he said.

Baxter has challenged his players to maintain consistency as they come up against The Clever Boys.

"The [current] level is not good enough. We need to make sure we are not giving away a stupid free-kick or corner in the first five minutes. We want to make sure we are more solid," he added.

Meanwhile, Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs hasn't given up on their title chase. Wits are six points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with five matches left. 'Slim Kat' said Wits will give it their best shot in the remaining fixtures.

"Anything can happen and we just have to stay in the hunt. Sundowns have been on an amazing run of form and we just have to hope something goes wrong on their side," he said.
