SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter took plenty positives from his club's loss to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, but in the end he said defeat had come as a heavy body blow.

"It was a strange but interesting exercise," he said of the reunion with his former club.

"I felt I had to be very professional because I had a lot of good times with the supporters and the [Chiefs] players.

"Both the [SuperSport] players and myself did a good job to keep ourselves focused on the game and not everything around the match.

"I understand Chiefs are pleased with the result. I would have been as well, especially after Sundowns had dropped points. It was important that they [Chiefs] did not drop points as well."

Baxter has managed only a single victory in his first four matches at SuperSport.

"I didn't have the pleasure of a pre-season and it is now very difficult with the games coming thick and fast. But in every game, they've shown improvement. We are difficult to beat and I think we are more efficient than before. I think we can count ourselves unlucky to have lost to Chiefs."

SuperSport United travel to Jomo Cosmos on Saturday and then take on Sundowns three days after.
