Why Ndlovu's not missing home one bit

It is often said that home is where the heart is, but in-form striker Dino Ndlovu says playing in South Africa almost ruined his career.

The 25-year-old from Klerksdorp, North West, has been in terrific form for Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta, for whom he has now scored 15 goals in 17 starts since joining them last July.

Yet Ndlovu struggled for game time, let alone goals, in the Absa Premiership when he played for SuperSport United and Mpumalanga Black Aces between 2014 and 2015.

Some have gone as far as suggesting that the Cypriot premier league can't be competitive since he's banging in the goals there.

"My football is not meant to be in South Africa. I was in my comfort zone at home. I was at home for two- and-a-half years, and I had my ups and downs. Whether I played or not, I didn't care. But now I'm in Cyprus, away from home and things are different," Ndlovu told Sowetan yesterday.

Ndlovu feels he could have done better in SA if he was a regular at the clubs he played for, but made 21 starts and scored three goals over two seasons at SuperSport and Aces.

"It is about patience.

"I was not given a proper chance when I played at home, because I would play one or two games then I'm out," he said.

Ndlovu insisted that the Cypriot league is competitive, contrary to some people's belief.

"I don't care about such things and at the end of the day I know that teams from here play in the Uefa Champions League - that tells you something," he said.

The marksman added that he hopes to become a regular for Bafana Bafana in future, but admits his focus is on continuing the great form for Anorthosis Famagusta.

"Of course. I will honour the call- ups, but like I said before, I'm focused on my team," he said.
