Thulani Serero warmed up for a crucial 10 days with Bafana Bafana as he made an appearance off the bench for Ajax Amsterdam in their crucial Dutch League fixture away at Feyenoord.

Serero, who is expected to resume his playmaker role with the national side in their two-legged 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Angola on Friday and next Tuesday, has been used sparingly by Ajax this campaign.

After an injury in pre-season, and while on national team duty last month, Serero appears to be back to full fitness.

He came on late in last Thursday's 0-0 Uefa Europa League draw with Fenerbahce, and also played the final 11 or so minutes in the 1-1 draw with fellow Dutch title-challengers Feyenoord.

Lebogang Phiri, who is expected to be an important cog in the national under-23 side that competes at the Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal later this month, played the first 70 minutes of Brondby's 0-0 draw with FC Copenhagen in Denmark.

The industrious midfielder made his 23rd start of the 2015-2016 season in the game, comfortably the most of any South African at home or abroad.

It is a number boosted by his club's appearance in the early rounds of the Europa League, but shows his importance to the side as one of the first names down on the team sheet.

Things are starting to look brighter for midfielder Daylon Claasen in Germany as his side, 1860 Munich, picked up another good point in their away 0-0 draw at Eintracht Braunschweig in the Bundesliga II.

The Munich club have made a horror start to the season but they saw better results in the last three matches.

Claasen featured in those improved results, including a victory over top-flight Mainz in the German Cup.

1860 remain in the drop zone but are now two points away from the relative safety of the relegation play-off position, and five points from absolute comfort.
