Gaxa's high praise for teammates

Kaizer Chiefs are fiercely bonded and have hard-working players who want to win things, said man of the match Siboniso Gaxa after Amakhosi's 1-0 second-leg semifinal victory over Bloemfontein Celtic saw them into the MTN8 final.

Gaxa, who put in a tireless running performance on the right- back as Chiefs out-muscled Celtic at FNB Stadium on Saturday to win the semifinal 2-1 on aggregate, said a core of the senior players at Chiefs maintain a high standard.

"We're professionals. We need to respect our job, and we don't have time to relax," Gaxa said of his teammates.

"It's a short career - we just want to win things so that when we look back we can say, 'I played in this final, I won this'.

"Not everyone gets such opportunities to play in finals and win championships.

"We've got a bunch of senior players who have represented the country and we try to keep our level high," he said.

Celtic coach Clinton Larsen said the match could have gone either way had midfielder Keagan Buchanan buried a 19th-minute chance when he burst through a hole down the middle.

Larsen rued Buchanan's miss, when the midfielder had only Itumeleng Khune to beat.

"It could have changed the complexion of the game," the Celtic coach said.

"At the same time credit to Chiefs - they showed what a good team they are. We're a work in progress, and hopefully it's games like this that can help us develop into a better team."

The venue for the September 19 MTN8 final will be decided by the PSL this evening.
