Chippa linked to go-to former coach Sikhakhane

Chippa United began pre-season medical and fitness examinations in Port Elizabeth on Monday and plan to spend three weeks in Cape Town preparing for the new season‚ but are yet to appoint a new coach.

The club will begin their actual preparations next Monday‚ returning to the Philippi Stadium in Cape Town which used to be their headquarters before they made the move to the Eastern Cape this time last year.

But just who will be in charge remains a mystery. The club had promised an announcement last week over a new coach but Lukhanyo Mzinzi‚ the club’s chief operating officer‚ says they hope to make an announcement by Friday.

“We are planning a press conference to notify our supporters of the new coach and also our plans for the pre-season‚” he said on Monday.

Chippa‚ who have again been linked with go-to former coach Roger Sikhakhane‚ join Maritzburg United as the only PSL club without a coach for the coming campaign despite the fact that all clubs are back to work this week as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Maritzburg lost their coach Steve Komphela to Kaizer Chiefs‚ while Chippa are looking for a new boss after going through 11 different coaches in their two seasons in the top flight so far.

This past season they used five different coaches: Kosta Papic‚ Sikhakhane‚ Ernst Middendorp‚ Mich d’Avray and Eddie Dyaloyi.

In their inaugural season‚ Chippa had six different coaches in Manqoba Mngqithi‚ Julius Dube‚ Sikhakhane‚ Farouk Abrahams‚ Wilfred Mugeyi and Mark Harrison.
