Will Amazulu cope with City?

Polokwane City will be without their suspended top scorer Puleng Tlolane, but they will ask some serious questions of AmaZulu's desire to remain in the Premier Soccer League.

City have encapsulated every spectrum this season - from going on goal-raiding sprees to shipping a truckload of goals.

Yet they have somehow found a way to stay in the higher reaches of the table for the best part of the season.

In tonight's clash against AmaZulu at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu (7.30 kickoff), the visitors will look to cement their top-eight position.

City are eighth on the log, and they are caught up in a mid-table log-jam.

Usuthu are a far harder proposition than their lowly log position suggests, having lost only one of their past six league matches.

Their PSL salvage job is far from completed, with last week's hiccup against Kaizer Chiefs predictable.

A lot of sides struggle to cope with City's helter-skelter approach, as they are equally capable of scoring five goals as they are of conceding the same number.

They have shipped five goals three times this season and a whopping 44 throughout the campaign.

Their freaky nature may not be something that scares AmaZulu coach Steve Barker, but their goalscoring ability is nothing to sneeze at.

"They are a tricky team that attacks in numbers and they have showed that they can score goals," Barker said.

"They play a certain brand and philosophy of football and if you don't close them down, they have dangerous players in their team.

"We need to get the balance right by making sure we are compact defensively and not allow them too much space and time because they are team that concedes many goals."

AmaZulu will be without the injured Bornwell Mwape, Roscoe Pietersen and the suspended John Aruwah but they will welcome Bonginkosi Ntuli back from suspension.

Barker knows his team needs to improve from an attacking perspective but he is aware of the importance of winning tonight to keep the pressure on fellow strugglers Free State Stars and Moroka Swallows.

"Should the result go against Swallows when they play Chippa, an opportunity to get above them on the table opens up. As long as we can keep our fate in our own hands, that is what we need to do."
