ZAKHELE Siwela has been appointed to run the line for tonight's Africa Cup of Nations semifinal in a career highlight for the 32-year-old from Alexandra.

It is a prestigious appointment for the last South African left at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea. The first semifinal is between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ivory Coast in Bata.

It is his third match at the tournament after working two group games - on the opening day when Gabon beat Burkina Faso in Bata and the dreary draw between Cape Verde and Zambia in Ebibeyin.

Siwela has remained on the panel for the competition after the departure of Bafana Bafana and referee Victor Gomes.

Bafana got home on Saturday and Gomes just ahead of them after he had just one match at the tournament.

"He did well but it's unusual for the junior referees who are at only their first Nations Cup to stay on past the group stage," explained CAF referee instructor Lim Kee Chong from Mauritius. "There was nothing wrong with his performance."
