SO RARE is a R1.5-million bonanza in Polokwane City's neck of the woods that club chairman Johnny Mogaladi says he will need time to decide how to spend the Q-Innovation quarter two prize money.

City surprised all and sundry when they claimed the honours for the mid-season incentive after collecting 16 points from six Absa Premier League matches.

Mogaladi, a businessman in Limpopo, would not reveal the monthly costs of running the club. He admitted, however, that the unexpected cash would boost his team's coffers when finally put to use.

"We are one of the few clubs in the PSL with no major sponsor, and we have managed to survive and keep the team up," he said yesterday.

"Our aim has always been to stay up in the PSL and avoid relegation. To hear that we have won Q2 came as a real surprise because I only know of Q7, the Audi car.

"But jokes aside, if it was the end of the season I would know what to do with this money. However, given that we never expected this, I feel we need to sit down and plan because this is a marathon and we aren't only aiming at doing well in December, but right up until the end of the season."

City, coached by Kosta Papic, went on an unbeaten run of six matches, which began when they thumped title challengers BidVest Wits away from home and recently held log leaders Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw to jump to eighth place on the PSL standings.

"But we must not spoil this. The first time we won anything as a club we were handed a trophy for winning the National First Division, but had to return it. We nearly got relegated last season and I believe we learnt our lesson, hence we roped in Papic."
