Chiefs lose steam

THE Kaizer Chiefs Gautrain has somewhat stalled in the past two games.

Amakhosi travel to Durban for tonight's Absa Premiership match against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium (7.30pm kickoff) having seen their winning start to the season ended by Moroka Swallows, who held them to a 1-1 draw last month.

A few days later, Platinum Stars bundled them out of the Telkom Knockout on penalties.

Chiefs striker Kingston Nkhatha maintained yesterday that Amakhosi would return to form tonight as they face an AmaZulu side without a league win this season.

"We have been working hard at training to rectify a few problems," the striker told the club's website. "Now we have to prove in the forthcoming match that we can apply the lessons learnt."

Nkhatha and other strikers at the club have come in for criticism as they have failed to set the scene alight this season, prompting coach Stuart Baxter to warn them they have to deliver.

"The coach is right," Nkhatha said. "All the strikers have been working hard on finishing. By the grace of God, everything will come right [tonight]. As strikers we owe it to the team."

Tonight's match will be Baxter's 100th as Chiefs coach, and with the winless Usuthu standing in his path, three points should cap his wonderful milestone.

AmaZulu's caretaker coach Wilfred Mugeyi is desperate for the three points.

"We are still looking for our first win, not just stopping Kaizer Chiefs. They drew with Moroka Swallows and lost to Platinum Stars [in the Telkom Knockout]. But they look very dangerous," Mugeyi said.

"If they were to come here having yet to drop a game, I would have been worried because of the momentum they would have gathered but thanks to the previous results that momentum seems to have been lost. It proves they can be stopped." - additional by Khanyiso Tshwaku
