Zim-born star in Aussie side

THE expected debut of one foreign-born player remains on hold but the Wallabies have roped in the services of another naturalised Australian in their squad of 30 for next week's test against the Springboks in Perth.

Coach Ewen McKenzie has called up Harare-born but Perth schooled centre Kyle Godwin after utility back Pat McCabe was forced into retirement by a third neck fracture.

Whether Godwin will be in the match-day squad is unlikely as the Wallabies will in all probability station the significantly more broad-shouldered Tevita Kuridrani at outside centre.

Adam Ashley-Cooper will take his jack-in-the-box skills to the outside backs, most likely on the right wing where McCabe finished his career.

Ashley-Cooper is in the back three as Fijian-born Henry Speight failed to earn selection, even though he qualifies to play for the Wallabies next month.

Among the forwards there was a surprise inclusion for hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau despite being in rehabilitation for a knee injury. With Stephen Moore already on the injured list and Nathan Charles injuring himself against the All Blacks, Polota-Nau's return was expedited.

He will not play against the Boks but could return to action when the Wallabies play Argentina on the Gold Coast on September 13.

The Wallabies are well stocked in the back row with captain Michael Hooper and Matt Hodgson as ball poachers, while heavy hitting Scott Higginbotham, Ben McCalman and Wycliff Palu are all part of the mix.

Scrumhalf Will Genia is still missing from the squad following ankle surgery.

The Wallabies hope to bounce back next week following another crushing defeat in Auckland but the Springboks didn't convince in their last outing either.
