Downs to release one foreigner

MAMELODI Sundowns have exceeded their quota of non-South African players, and one of their stars is set to make way for a top-class Zimbabwean forward - Kudakwashe Mahachi.

Mahachi became the sixth foreign addition to the Downs line-up after he recently inked a five-year contract with the big-spending Brazilians.

Mahachi caught Sundowns scouts' eyes following his sparkling showing for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cape Town in January.

A Downs insider revealed yesterday that ''one must go, and I can tell you now that it is going to happen before the new season kicks off".

Teams are allowed to sign five foreigners, but only three can play in a match. The other two can come in as substitutes for other foreigners.

The other foreigners in Chloorkop are midfielder Khama Billiat, striker Cuthbert Malajila (both Zimbabweans), Togolese Dove Wome, Ghanaian Rashid Sumaila and Zambian Mulenga Mukuka.
