Kaizer Chiefs are the winners of PSL Q2

THE Premier Soccer League yesterday confirmed Kaizer Chiefs as the winners of the Absa Premiership Quarter 2.

Chiefs are now on top of the Q2 log table.

Mathematically, they cannot be caught by any of the clubs behind them, despite the fact that some teams have not played their full quota of games in Q2.

Last season, Amakhosi won Q1 and 3 and were also crowned Premier Soccer League champions - banking a whooping R13-million from the total prize money.

Premier Soccer League chief executive Brand de Villiers said: "We would like to congratulate Kaizer Chiefs for winning Q2. We have seen them display some good performances lately and this is a timely reward for their efforts."

De Villiers went further to explain the situation with Q1: "For every Quarter, fixtures are allocated at the beginning of the season as block fixtures and whenever there are changes, these fixtures remain in that block.

"People will remember that we had to reschedule a lot of fixtures earlier in the season, mainly involving Orlando Pirates. This created a backlog and resulted in Q1 fixtures being postponed to a later date. The fact that competition is tight at the top of the Q1 log also means that it could go to the last matches to be certain of a winner."

Chiefs have gone seven matches without losing - for the first time since 1999. They are favourites to defend their league title.
