We won't misuse SABC funds

ATHLETICS South Africa administrator Zola Majavu has made it clear the R10-million broadcast sponsorship money will not be used to pay the federation's debts.

"When the deal was signed, they agreed it will be used for various events like the Comrades, Two Oceans and Soweto Marathon and nothing else," said Majavu.

"There are penalties if we do not host any of these events."

The SABC broadcast sponsorship deal, which was secured by Accelerate Sport, is for R10.250- million.

ASA still owes Accelerate just over R2.5-million.

"I have started the process of engaging some of the stakeholders to ensure that we fix all the loopholes.

"For me, the core business is athletes, we have to make sure that our athletes are well-looked after as well as ASA staff," he said, adding that he has also applied for financial assistance from the National Lotteries Board.
