UNIVERSITY of Pretoria are playing a dangerous waiting game with giant striker Mame Niang - having failed to decide whether to offer the Senegalese player a deal for next season.

Niang will be out of contract at the end of the current campaign and could at this stage sign an agreement with another Premier Soccer League team for next season while AmaTuks dither over whether to keep him.

The 29-year-old forward has already netted seven goals this season and a good run in the remaining weeks of the campaign could see him finish as the top scorer in the PSL.

He achieved that feat with Moroka Swallows in the 2004-05 season when he netted 14 goals.

AmaTuks have confirmed that they were still considering the future of Niang, who arrived from SuperSport United at the beginning of the season.

Coach Steve Barker admitted some weeks ago that the club was still working out possible permutations with their foreign nationals, which could explain the hold-up in deciding whether to keep him or not.

Niang is in his fourth season in the PSL, having also played in the German Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and in Norway at Viking and Kongsvinger.

This year's goals return is the second best of his career after the Birds effort in 2004-05.
