Chiefs in talks with Yeye, Parker

KAIZER Chiefs are discussing new contracts with striker Bernard Parker and midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

"We want them to remain with the club," said general manager Bobby Motaung.

The players' contracts expire at the end of June but both players are expected to remain with Chiefs.

Letsholonyane and Parker were among the seven Chiefs players who were part of the Bafana Bafana squad that lost to Mali in the Afcon quarterfinals.

The other five players were Tsepo Masilela, Siboniso Gaxa, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Itumeleng Khune.

"We are not signing any new player because we are convinced the material we have will take us to greater heights, we are aiming for the league title," said Motaung.

Chiefs have offered defender Tefu Mashamaite a new two-year deal and are also negotiating for a new deal with former captain Jimmy Tau.

Meanwhile, Chiefs assistant coach Doctor Khumalo has confirmed that teenager Lorenzo Gordinho will not be considered for the first team this season.

The 18-year-old centre-back has caused a wave of interest after he was registered by the club for the rest of the 2012-13 campaign. But Khumalo told Sowetan that it was never their intention to use him in the first team, but rather in the club's reserve side as a way of stepping up his progress towards PSL football.

"He is still a youngster and a lot of work has to be done with him. I had him in my Under-17 side and what I can say is that he has a lot of promise. You could say he is being groomed for the first team, but he is not ready yet."

Gordinho is a former national U-17 and U-20 player who was part of the Amajita side that competed at the recent 2013 African Youth Championship qualifiers.
