Afcon committee seeks liaison officers

THE 2013 Afcon Local Organising Committee has begun searching for team liaison officers as part of its preparations for the continental soccer spectacle.

LOC chief competitions officer Steve "Principal" Pila said the team liaison officers would be employed for the duration of the tournament, starting in January.

"We need people with experience and a track record of excellence in a big environment similar to the tournament we will be hosting. The team liaison officers will serve as the main point of contact for day-to-day issues. They will also serve as interpreters for the teams that will take part in the tournament, so we are going to need French, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese-speaking people.

"In addition, team liaison officers will assist the participating teams and delegations during inspection tours and assist them with preparations for friendly games in the build-up to the tournament."

Pila said the 16 team liaison offers will report daily to the LOC team services coordinator.

Requirements include communication skills, problem solving, familiarity with LOC operations, fluency as an interpreter, patience and cultural sensitivity.
